'Damn!'
Leave it to Maxine to get stuck outside in the rain, when it was pouring down with so much force that it threatened to knock her unconscious. The one day that she had left something at the office, the rain had started to come down in buckets, soaking her clean through within a matter of moments. Her once white shirt now clung to her body, completely see through were it not for the jacket she wore over her body, tightly pulled together at the front. There was no umbrella at all in her hand, for her hands were otherwise occupied with keeping herself covered from the eyes of anyone she passed on the streets.
Hurrying her away along, she stepped into a puddle, stopping for a moment to shake the extra water from her foot before her pace continued, running slightly awkwardly down the deserted road. As far as she could see, which was only about five feet in front of her, there was no one else around on that stormy night, and it was probably for the best. Even Max wouldn't have been there, had it not been for the Muggles she had seen coming out of a restaurant a few blocks back. Were it not for them, she would have Apparated home to her nice, warm, dry appartment without having spent too much time in the rain.
As it was, she would probably catch a cold now.
Max could feel the drops rolling down her skin, each one leaving a distinct chill that ran up and down her spine. Every strand of hair was stuck flat against her face without the usual curl that it held. Even now, she could feel her pant legs begin to stick to her skin, clinging as though they may perish without being so close to her. It was a foolish thought, especially from someone who's main concern should be getting home and out of the rain, but that was the way it was beginning to feel to her.
And of course, as she looked both ways to cross the street at the stoplight, there was the sudden sound of a honking horn in her ear, blasting so shrilly that Max jumped back a good four feet as the car zoomed by. The speed at which it passed caused the puddle that she stood in to come up and soak her some more, hitting her entire body with such a violent chill that she fell back into the puddle, palms slightly scratched from the gravel beneath her.
"This is not my day," she mumbled, sitting in the puddle for a second.
A soft sigh escaped from her lips as she looked down at the knee of her pants with her dark brown eyes, seeing the pool of scarlet that had begun to infect the material that was once tan. Grimacing slightly, she tried to pick herself up, finding that the knock to her knee had caused enough pain to make it rather difficult to move. She tried again, making it to the other knee before she fell back again in pain, cursing under her breath. At that moment, she would have chosen to be almost anywhere rather than where she was.
